Balancing AI Integration in Manufacturing: Empowering Human Control with AI-PROFICIENT

Based on a publication by AI-PROFICIENT’s partner Tenforce in the BIC magazine.

In today’s fast-paced economic landscape, the manufacturing and process industries are embracing the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and Augmented Reality (AR) to drive productivity, reduce costs, enhance product quality, and gain a competitive edge in the global market.

A collaborative effort among industry leaders, research institutions, and technology providers, the AI-PROFICIENT project aims to revolutionize the manufacturing sector by combining human expertise with AI capabilities. By leveraging proactive control strategies and advanced technologies, AI-PROFICIENT empowers plant operators with decision support, automation capabilities, and valuable insights while ensuring that humans remain in charge.

The project focuses on process optimization across various areas:

  • Event detection and prediction
  • Simulation of operational scenarios
  • Transparent decision-making and optimal control
  • Personalized assistance on the shop floor

Ethical considerations are at the forefront of the AI-PROFICIENT project, emphasizing the importance of human involvement in supervisory roles and decision-making. The objective is to enhance manufacturing processes in production efficiency, quality, and maintenance, targeting a 10% increase in Overall Production Efficiency (OPE) and a 50% decrease in low-quality product output.
