Breaking Boundaries in AI: AI-PROFICIENT’s Paper “Human-feedback for AI in Industry” Accepted at CENTRIC 2023!

In an exciting development, we are thrilled to announce that our groundbreaking paper “Human-feedback for AI in Industry”, a collaboration between esteemed partners Tekniker, Universite de Lorraine, and Continental, has been accepted for presentation at the prestigious 16th International Conference on Advances in Human-oriented and Personalized Mechanisms, Technologies, and Services (CENTRIC 2023). The event, slated for November 13-17, 2023, will take place in Valencia, Spain.

Izaskun Fernández, a prominent figure within the AI-PROFICIENT team from Tekniker, will take the lead in presenting this remarkable work in an online format. The paper, titled “Human-feedback for AI in Industry” boasts the collaborative efforts of several experts, including K. Lopez de la Calle, E. Garate, R. Benzmuller, M. Kessler, and M. Anderson.

Unveiling the Essence of the Paper “Human-feedback for AI in Industry”

The paper’s core focus revolves around the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the manufacturing industry. While AI opens a world of possibilities, it comes with its own set of challenges, particularly regarding data availability and quality, a critical hurdle that demands attention. This directly impacts on the necessity and still open challenge of AI to developing systems that can continually learn (from one or more domains) over a lifetime, starting from limited sets of data. The AI-PROFICIENT team presents the research done on human reinforced learning approaches that starting from small training data sets of open dynamic environments, enable developing AI models able to learn over time, taking advantage not only of a data driven approach but also of a knowledge-based approach, considering human-feedback as key enabler.

      How should the developers engage the operators when developing the AI service and related apps and HMIs, with the goal of simplifying the job of confirming correct chemical product bag placement before production? ​

      The developers should work closely with the operators to design the services, choose the HMIs and adapt the apps, according to the actual work context. ​
      To implement an ethical by design user centered approach, the developers should work closely with the operators who will actually use the service. They should take care to understand the specific work conditions (dust, noise, time for tasks, etc.), discuss the planned solutions with the operator users, design initial mockups and discuss these with the operator users regularly in an iterative process as they develop the service. ​
