Navigating best practices and ethical insights in AI-PROFICIENT’s 3-year voyage

In the ‘Deliverable 6.5: Best practices and lessons learned’, we dive deep into the rich tapestry of insights gained from both developers and end-users over the course of our transformative 3-year project. We provide an extensive description of best practices and lessons learned, offering a comprehensive perspective on the evolution of AI-PROFICIENT:

  • Ethics at the core: A significant portion of our attention is dedicated to ethics considerations for the use cases.
  • Direct and indirect learnings: We make a crucial distinction between direct and indirect learnings. Direct learnings are intricately linked to the specific use cases (UCx) within AI-PROFICIENT, offering insights directly tied to our project’s unique challenges and solutions. Indirect learnings, on the other hand, provide a more generic understanding, transcending the immediate project scope.

This allows manufacturers to make better decisions, reduce downtime and maintenance costs, and address problems quickly.​

      How should the developers engage the operators when developing the AI service and related apps and HMIs, with the goal of simplifying the job of confirming correct chemical product bag placement before production? ​

      The developers should work closely with the operators to design the services, choose the HMIs and adapt the apps, according to the actual work context. ​
      To implement an ethical by design user centered approach, the developers should work closely with the operators who will actually use the service. They should take care to understand the specific work conditions (dust, noise, time for tasks, etc.), discuss the planned solutions with the operator users, design initial mockups and discuss these with the operator users regularly in an iterative process as they develop the service. ​
